Apple strikes back at rogue app stores

iPhone maker invokes the power of terms and conditions to crack down on unauthorised downloads.

Apple has changed the terms and conditions attached to its iPhone SDK in an effort to prevent developers making content that ends up being sold on one of a growing number of 'rogue' app stores, like Cydia.

According to Ars Technica (via The Register), there's now a clause within the T&Cs that reads:

"Applications developed using the Apple Software may only be distributed if selected by Apple (in its sole discretion) for distribution via the App Store or for limited distribution on Registered Devices (ad hoc distribution) as contemplated in this Agreement."

The Register speculates that the new measures will probably stop any mainstream content providers flouting the rules, but may prove ineffective against the 'hard core' of miscreants.
