Apple stock rocky on Jobs health fears

CEO Steve Jobs is to take medical leave of absence until the end of June.

Apple COO Tim Cook will take over day-to-day operations at Apple for five months as Steve Jobs takes time off to treat "complex" health problems.

It's only two weeks since Jobs - who was treated for pancreatic cancer in 2004 -  moved to reassure investors about his health, attributing weight loss to hormonal imbalance.

As news of Jobs' leave of absence filtered through the markets last night the iPhone maker's stock fell as much as 10 per cent before recovering.

In a statement issued by Apple, Jobs said: "Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else at Apple as well."
