Concert Ticket + concept covers gigs, sports events and, er, weddings

Apple has secured a patent for an iTunes-based electronic ticketing system going by the name of Concert Ticket +.

PatentlyApple has the details of what appears to be a quite comprehensive blueprint for selling and managing ticketing for gigs, sports events, conferences, amusement parks, weddings, museums and presumably anything else one can think of.

The basic idea is that the tickets would be sold via iTunes and then synced with an app on an iPhone that the user can then scan to gain entry to the event.

Moreover, the patent makes provision for the bundling of exclusive content, live recordings, song lyrics, merchandise and refreshments within the price of the e-ticket.

No word yet on when Concert Ticket + is likely to see the light of day, but it's sure to bolster Apple's already strong position in the world of digital music and quite possibly shake up the existing (and much maligned) concert ticketing scene.
