Mountain Lion brings iOS features to the desktop.
Time was when everyone wanted the mobile to be more like a PC. Give use browsing! Email! Let me look at my PDFs!
Now, thanks to the utter triumph of the iPhone and iPad, the tables are being turned.
Apple has just unveiled its new Mac OS, Mountain Lion, and it's put iOS features – and interface – at the heart of it.
So, desktop users can now access notifications, Game Center, reminders, Twitter integration, iCloud syncing and iMessage.
The latter will replace iChat, and will deepen the integration between users of iPhones, iPads and Macs.

Ultimately, of course, Apple wants these users – of which there are over 250m – to bypass other forms of messaging and just use the Apple system. This move brings that reality closer.
Elsewhere, Twitter is integrated throughout Mountain Lion, allowing users to tweet from Safari, Quick Look, Photo Booth, Preview and third party apps.
The new OS will also integrate AirPlay Mirroring, which lets users beam what’s on the Mac to a TV via AppleTV devices.
Mountain Lion will ship in late summer 2012 through the Mac App Store.
