Reports say ad element in works too
Apple is planning to launch a subscription option for newspapers - and presumably magazines - published onto the iPad.
According to the Mercury News (via 9to5Mac), Apple will also share user information that publishers can then use when pitching to advertisers.
The report speculates - citing industry sources - that the iPad maker will seek to take 30 per cent of any subs revenue and 40 per cent of advertising revenue.
That's sure to irk many publishers who would rather bundle digital subs with print editions rather than be tied to Apple's system and rev share.
Until recently, publishers could only sell single issues as standalone apps, or distribute free apps that then sell issues via in-app payments.

However, Time Inc recently started offering iPad issues of its celebrity magazine People to existing subscribers for free, seemingly heralding a breakthrough in Apple's relationship with the publishing industry.
