Former CEO Steve Jobs and iPhone help the fruity firm take home the gold.
The poll was answered by a series of industry specialists in the run-up to the London Games Conference, which takes place next week on Thursday, November 10th.
The top five people that helped to shape video games includes:
* Steve Jobs, former Apple CEO - 46 per cent
* Gabe Newell, co-founder and MD of Valve - 29 per cent
* Shigeru Miyamoto, developer of Mario, Zelda - 12 per cent
* Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the world wide web - eight per cent
* Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook - five per cent
The top five products to have shaped video games includes:
* Apple’s iPhone - 53 per cent
* Nintendo Wii - 22 per cent
* Xbox Live - nine per cent
* The original PlayStation console - nine per cent
* Steam (digital distribution) - seven per cent
Of the result Michael French, editor-in-chief, MCV trade video games magazine, said: "Steve Jobs, the iPhone’s driving force, was the ultimate independent developer – uncompromising in his vision, with unquestionable influence, and hugely artistic and commercial results.
"Apple thrived by linking ultra-desirable mobile devices to compelling online services. Likewise, the web and connected services like Facebook and Steam have transformed how humans behave and interact."
