No more free access to iPad editions for print subscribers?
Apple is taking steps to prevent several newspapers in Europe from giving existing print subscribers free access to iPad editions, according to reports from deVolkskrant and nrc.nl (via AppleInsider).
The new rule is expected to come into effect on April 1st and is being seen as Apple flexing its muscles to ensure it gets its 30 per cent cut of App Store transactions.
It's all part of the build up to the launch of News Corp's iPad-only digital newspaper, The Daily, which is likely to be accompanied by an update to the iOS that will enable publishers to deploy subscription models for their content for the first time.
News Corp has been showing off The Daily to journalists under embargo, in advance of an anticipated launch next week.
Forbes claims that the subscription-based app will launch on Wednesday 19 January, although News Corporation has not confirmed the go-live date.

Sales of magazine apps on the store have flattered to deceive, but The Daily is a different proposition: an entirely new made-for-tablet service, rather than a digital version of an existing print publication.
