New figures also show there are now 85,000 apps available and 125,000 developers in the Developer Program

Apple has confirmed that more than two billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store.

The 1.5 billion landmark was hit back in July.

In a short stament Apple added there are now more than 85,000 apps available to the 50 million iPhone and iPod touch owners, and more than 125,000 developers in its iPhone Developer Programme.

It's the second piece of big Apple mobile news today, following the confirmation that Orange is to begin offering iPhone 3G and 3GS later this year.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said: "The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone. The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it.”
