Apple App Store hits 25bn downloads

Someone's getting a $10k iTunes giftcard today.

Just a few days ago, Apple confirmed it was closing in on 25bn and set a counter running on its site to illustrate the countdown

The App Store has been running at 48.6m daily downloads in the run-up, and hit the 25bn figure in the early hours of Sunday.

That means it's taken three years and seven months, having launched the store in July 2008. There are now over 500,000 apps on offer.

Apple has also confirmed that it reckons the 'App Economy' in the US has created 210,000 jobs, and that there are 248,000 registered iOS developers in the US alone.
