Appcelerator bags $15m series C round

Global expansion on the agenda for cross-platform app development specialist.

Appcelerator’s open source Titanium platform lets developers build applications once using web programming languages and convert them to run on mobile and desktop platforms, including iPhone OS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and HTML5.

It reckons 30,000 apps have been created to date and are now on 30 million devices.

Appcelerator will use the money to continue to develop Titanium and expand in Europe and Asia. There could be acquisitions too. Last week, the firm bought HTML5 web app specialist Particle Code.

The new investment comes from Mayfield Fund, Translink Capital, Red Hat, eBay, Sierra Ventures and Storm Ventures.
