The iTunes App Store was launched last July, and offers more than 35,000 applications from 50,000 developers. Customers have been downloading around 1,200 applications a minute. It took sox months to reach the first 500,000, three months to double it.
“The revolutionary App Store has been a phenomenal hit with iPhone and iPod touch users around the world, and we’d like to thank our customers and developers for helping us achieve the astonishing milestone of one billion apps downloaded,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Product Marketing.
“In nine months, the App Store has completely revolutionised the mobile industry and this is only the beginning.”
