Vonage plans to save users of its iOS/Android app as much as 70 per cent when making international calls.

The app, which works over 3G , 4G and wi-fi, allows users to buy calling credits for $4.99 and $9.99 directly from the app or via the respective app store.

It uses the phone's existing contact details, preventing the need for user names and customers are able to build up a free calls and text allowance by using inviting friends to join the app.
