Social games launched to coincide with release of Transformers: Dark of the Moon arriving on DVD and Blu-ray in the US.
TF3 Battle Zone is a co-creation of UK-based app and web startup Project Zebra and film distributor Paramount Home Entertainment.
The firms claim its app continues the transforming battle in social networking form by utilising check-in app Foursquare's API.
Users decide whether to be a hero or villain and defend their city by claiming and protecting 'real-world territory' every time they check into a location.
TF3: Battle Zone will be available on iOS, Android and HTML5 devices and can be linked to Facebook and Twitter accounts too.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon recently grossed $1bn at the box office, the first Paramount film to do so, it's likely both companies will be hoping the success rubs off on the app.
