Operates using speech recognition technology allowing users to sound like the little blue topless critters.

zuuka the publisher of iStoryTime, the library of mobile children's book apps has released iTalk Smurf for Apple's iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

The app has been designed to feature Clumsy Smurf, who will repeat the words the user speaks in his own dulcet smurfy tones through speech recognition.

zuuka says the app also allows the user to record Clumsy's voice and save an animated 3D-like video to their photo library.

Animations of Clumsy can also be viewed when the user tickles, pokes or pets him on various parts of the body.

Graham Farrar, founder of zuuka, said: "We're excited to showcase our in-house cutting-edge development capabilities with the iTalk label and are looking forward to continuing to evolve how users interact with mobile applications."

The creatures earlier outing Smurfs' Village was the number one top-grossing app in 55 countries.

The eighties Belgian cartoon series recently saw a film produced, introducing the franchise to a new generation.
