TFL's 'Countdown System', designed by Telent, currently pushes real-time info via ticker-like display screens at 19,000 bus stops and 700 routes across the city.
And now, Telent has tweaked the platform for mobile with the BUStop London app, using the same countdown solutions to provide arrival and departure times info to iOS devices.
Users can also look at their nearest bus stops and plan their journeys, while info can be shared to social networks or email and text messages, useful in the approach to the Olympics.
Customisable alerts are another handy feature, with users receiving a push notification when the bus is five minutes from their stop.
Chris Metcalfe, MD of telent’s technology solutions business, said: "Users of this market leading app will now have fingertip access to real-time passenger information meaning no more unnecessarily waiting for buses in the rain!”
The app is free for a limited time on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
