App discovery service Chomp relaunches with search focus

Claims 'Apple is insanely excited about this'.

iPhone app discovery service Chomp has revamped its app and website, with a new focus on search alongside its existing user reviews.

The service launched at the start of this year, and let iPhone users rate apps, and sign up friends to see their recommendations.

It currently has 400,000 active users, according to TechCrunch, and hopes its beefed-up search function will help those users discover more apps.

Co-founder Ben Keighran describes it as "the most personalized way to search and browse for apps", and claims that Chomp now provides more relevant app recommendations than Apple's own Genius service.

"Apple is insanely excited about this," says Keighran. He better watch out: if Apple is that excited, it may well incorporate Chomp-style features into the App Store, and cannibalise its business model.
