AOL to relaunch AOL Radio app with Slacker partnership

Net veteran is taking a new tilt at Pandora's personalised radio crown.

Having successfully completed its IPO earlier this month, personalised radio service Pandora is set to face competition from some big guns of the media and internet industry in the coming months.

The latest to train its sights on Pandora? AOL. The company has announced a relaunch of its AOL Radio service, through a partnership with one of Pandora's rivals, Slacker.

The pair will be providing three tiers of service for AOL Radio: a free ad-supported radio service, a paid version with no ads, and a premium fully on-demand streaming music offering.

It will be available online, but AOL says it will also relaunch its AOL Radio iPhone app later this summer, having notched up more than three million downloads for the existing (non-Slacker) version.
