Augmented reality app Layar has been updated to version 3.0 for Android handsets, while the company behind it has been showcasing some of the innovative content being created for its 'reality browser'.
The app allows developers to create layers of content, which users can then access while pointing their handset camera at the real world.
Among the examples are a Beatles-themed Abbey Road storytelling tour, which overlays animated Beatles onto the famous zebra crossing at Abbey Road - allowing users to snap screenshots of their mates posing alongside them.
Other layers highlighted by Layar include an architectural project in Rotterdam, virtual UFOs hovering over real-world buildings, and the obligatory Twitter mash-ups.
Layar says it now has more than 1,000 developers creating content for its browser. What's more, it will soon launch v3.0 for iPhone 3GS too, once it's been approved by Apple.
