Even though downloads are currently two and a half times higher on Apple.
App store search-tech company Xyologic is behind the app downloads report, which examines mobile app statistics.
The firm claims its research for August 2011 shows Apple received 1.45 billion app downloads, while Android received less than half that figure with 640 million.
Although Apple leads Android, Xyologic says in a sign of things to come Android will catch Apple by June 2012, as results show Android outperformed iPhone in Poland, Czech Republic and Portugal.
In the coming months, a number of developers in various countries will select Android as the platform option for the largest audiences, according to the report.
