There have been whispers about Amazon making a play for the smartphone market for some time now, but those whispers are finally starting to get louder.
A report from Bloomberg says that Amazon is working with Chinese mobile-phone maker Foxconn on a smartphone.
According to "two people with knowledge of the matter", Foxconn - which produces devices for a number of firms including Apple, Microsoft and China’s Baidu - is developing a device for the retail giant.
In light of the recent copyright and patent disputes, Amazon is also increasing its mobile and wireless technology patents, in a bid to defend itself against the inevitable allegations of infringement.
