Amazon plans Kindle Library Lending

Amazon plans Kindle Library Lending

Lets users borrow Kindle books from over 11,000 libraries in the US.

Kindle Library Lending will be available for all kinds of Kindle devices and e-reader apps.

Customers can borrow a Kindle book, and if they decide to buy it or rent it again, all of their annotations and bookmarks will be preserved. But these notes will not show up when another borrower checks out the book.

Clearly, Amazon will bank on this move fuelling ebook sales, even though it is in theory giving away books.

Amazon is working with OverDrive on this. The latter provides digital content for over 11,000 public and educational libraries in the US.

Kindle Library Lending will be available later this year for Kindle and free Kindle app users.
