Amazon launches Kindle Singles

Amazon launches Kindle Singles

Bigger than a magazine article, smaller than a book.

Amazon describes the launch as call to 'serious writers, thinkers, scientists, business leaders, historians, politicians and publishers'.

And it adds that '10,000 to 30,000 words (roughly 30 to 90 pages) might be the perfect, natural length to lay out a single killer idea'.

Interesting, because what Amazon is doing here is attempting to monetise a kind of writing that has never been sold directly to the public before – well not since the age of essayists like Hazlitt et al.

So Kindle Singles will have its own section in the Kindle Store and be priced much less than a typical book.

Like all Kindle content, they will be available on Kindle, Kindle 3G, Kindle DX, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Mac, PC, BlackBerry, and Android-based devices.  And they are automatically backed up online in the Kindle library on Amazon.
