Wants to help magazines and newspapers make the most of Apple's App Store
Adobe is hoping to capitalise on the launch of Apple's Newsstand store-section in iOS 5 by helping publishers turn their newspapers and magazines into digital editions for it.
The company says its Digital Publishing Suite will be fully compatible with Newsstand, which will have its own section on Apple's App Store, as well as a dedicated space on iOS device homescreens for all people's digital subscriptions.
"Digital Publishing Suite support for Newsstand will provide Adobe’s publishing customers the ability to deliver engaging content directly to the digital doorstep of subscribers on their iPads," says Adobe's Todd Teresi in a statement.
"Adobe technology is fundamental to the transformation taking place across publishing and now readers will be able to easily obtain their magazine and newspaper subscriptions in one location and get access to the latest issue as soon as it is published, further accelerating magazine adoption on tablet devices."
iOS has been seen as a major competitive threat to Adobe, given Apple's refusal to allow the company's Flash technology onto its devices. However, Adobe's digital publishing business could thrive as publications move to iOS - but only if its tools are up to the job, of course.
