The number of people using w-fi to access the mobile web doubled in Europe last year.
Mobile ad network AdMob says requests via wi-fi access points more than doubled in Europe during 2008, with strong growth in France, Germany, Italy and Spain.The company's January Mobile Metrics Report also shows spikes in US usage, with 18 per cent of mobile ad requests in the state of California now coming via wi-fi connections, followed by New York with 14 per cent and Texas with eight per cent.
Eight per cent of total US requests are generated over wi-fi, with the iPhone and iPod touch responsible for a majority of the traffic.
Overall, AdMob's total requests hit 6.79 billion in January, up eight per cent from December.
Worldwide requests from Apple devices grew 28 per cent month over month to 1.2 billion in January.
