AdMob launches iPhone Download Exchange

New service lets developers cross-promote their apps with other iPhone content providers.

AdMob says developers can use iPhone Exchange to allocate a portion of their ad inventory to other apps.

In return, their apps will be promoted by other app makers in the network to help derive downloads.

AdMob's network currently covers more than 1,000 iPhone applications.

“iPhone developers are clamoring for new ways to increase consumer discoverability of their applications,” said Omar Hamoui, CEO of AdMob. “Everyone we talk to tells us the same thing, making this a great opportunity for us to extend another valuable service to developers.”

The system will maximise the effectiveness of exchange ads by ensuring they only run on devices that do not already have the same application installed. It will also target by the correct OS version, geography, and device (iPhone vs. iPod touch) and provide metrics on ad impressions.

AdMob will allocate Download Exchange ad inventory among the exchange members based on the quantity and quality of the inventory each member contributes, as well as the “installiness” of an application.
