iPhone developer reaps the rewards of mobile advertising.

It remains a quirk of the industry that the people best placed to benefit from mobile advertising within mobile apps are... people who make mobile apps!

iPhone developer Digital Outcrop is the latest beneficiary, having boosted downloads of its Mixology cocktail application by 845% with an ad campaign using AdMob's network.

Text ads across more than 3,000 apps helped drive the app up to third spot in the Lifestyle category on the App Store, according to Mobile Marketer.

The application was downloaded more than 23,000 times during the campaign, claims AdMob.

Meanwhile, Digital Outcrop was using AdMob's 'house ads' in the Mixology app to promote the premium version, Mixologist, which subsequently entered the Top 100 Paid chart.

A success story? Well, yes - although the real metric is how much the developer spent on the campaign, versus how much it made in paid downloads as a result.
