Actimagine readies hi-res mobile video

Mobile video specialist to stream clips at 25 frames a second.

France-based Actimagine says it will give broadcasters and second tier operators an easy route to the mobile video market when it launches Mobiclip in July.

Mobiclip is a web and mobile storefront that lets users stream or download DVD-quality, 25 frames-per-second video content via sideload, wi-fi or 3G.

The service is based on the Actimagine codec, which runs video on Symbian and Windows Mobile devices. The company says this equates to a 100 million unit addressable market.

Actimagine sees Mobiclip as especially attractive to broadcasters with little presence on mobile, and to operators that don’t offer a 3G TV streaming service of their own.

Xavier Grégoire, biz dev manager of Actimagine, said: “Broadcasters are looking for new ways to reach their audiences and they don’t care which operator these audiences are subscribed to.”
