Content-focused search engine abphone increased its audience by a third in 2008.
The French firm saw visitor numbers grow by 30 per cent thanks to increased penetration in the UK, US, India and its home country, while searches leapt to half a billion. Advertising revenue rose by 40 per cent.abphone specialises in mobile content discovery, helping users find mages, wallpapers, videos and games. In 2009, the firm plans to launch new vertical search services in music and news.
Pierre Scokaert, CEO of abphone, said: “The future is bright for abphone because vertical search is ideally suited for the mobile web. In 2009, we plan to increase the viral spread of abphone, and we aim at appearing on an increasing number of operator portals, to repeat in other countries the success we achieved in France.”
