Mobile entertainment search engine benefits from youth word-of-mouth.
French mobile entertainment search engine abphone says it's now attracting more than one million unique users a month.
They're visiting ten times each on average, helping the service to register one million hours of service usage a month.
The company is keen to highlight a recent Openwave study that claimed abphone is attracting a third of Google's traffic in South Africa.
It seems the company is hoping for more growth in emerging markets in 2010.
"Some countries which have historically been leaders, such as Great Britain and the United States, have collapsed," says CEO Pierre Scokaert, referring to advertising prices, rather than abphone's traffic.
"Meanwhile, other countries have seen a sharp rise in mobile advertising prices, such as India and South Africa."
Scokaert says that in France, 77% of abphone's users have a smartphone, most of which are iPhones. That proportion is 74% for the UK, 66% for South Africa, 42% for India and 47% for the US.
"Smartphone owners use abphone twice as much as those with feature phones," he says. abphone is considering taking on new funding from VCs in the year ahead, to fuel its growth.
