ABC reveals 800k downloads of its iPad TV app

And 4.2 million episodes have been watched through it.

More than 800,000 people have downloaded US broadcaster ABC's iPad app since its launch last month, the company has announced.

Those users have started 4.2 million episodes using the app in that time, EVP of digital media Albert Cheng tells VideoNuze.

However, the success has led ABC to double the number of adverts that are included in each episode streamed through the iPad app.

Until now, they've included 5-6 ads lasting 30 seconds each. If the claims of a doubling are correct, there are now 10-12 ads in each show - although that's still less than would be seen in an airing on broadcast TV.

ABC made the deliberate decision to make its iPad app free to download and to use - there is no premium subscription charge - so ads are its only way of making money from its burgeoning iPad audience.
