Vast majority of iPhone users shun the sideloading alternative, says Admob.

The mobile ad network's new stats say only seven per cent go through iTunes to download apps, and that 62 per cent of all respondents searched for a specific app while 60 per cent looked through the lists of top selling apps in the store.

It adds that 46 per cent rely on recommendations from friends, while about 20 per cent find new apps through ads in other apps and about 19 per cent base their download decisions on news articles and blog posts.

Elsewhere it revealed that 62 per cent of users install between one and six new apps per month and that 22 per cent download more than 11 apps per month.
