Just six per cent of the US make use of the tech in 2011.
Market researcher Forrester discovered the results that show American adults aren't too wise when it comes to geolocation apps.
A surprising revelation as geosocial services including Foursquare have millions of users, indeed Foursquare just reached the 15 million milestone.
Results show 84 per cent were in the dark about location-based platforms in 2010, which fell to 70 per cent for 2011.
However, despite the apparent 14 per cent growth in the knowledge, that's still over two-thirds that have no idea what geolocation apps are.
The report says users of the apps only reached six per cent in 2011, up from four per cent in 2010, which is a pretty dismal increase.

Forrester's study also highlights the difference between geosocial and geolocation apps. It claims the former is more powerful as it provides information about location and the user's movements, while the latter offers navigation, maps and local deals.
Further results show that those using the geolocation apps are young, with three quarters of those between 23-45 using the tech. When broken down, this accounts for 43 per cent aged 23-31 down to 18 per cent for those aged 18-22.
The report also shows that just one per cent of adults aged 67+ used geolocation apps in 2011.
