63% of iPad owners pay for apps says Nielsen

But 32% haven't downloaded any apps at all.

Nearly two thirds of iPad owners have paid for an app, according to new research from Nielsen.

It found that 63% have downloaded a paid app on their tablet, compared to just 5% who say they only download free apps.

The missing 32%? Startlingly, they say they don't download apps at all.

Nielsen has also broken down the data by app category, finding that 62% of iPad owners have paid for a game, 54% for a book, and 50% for a music app.

Nielsen's survey also investigated the content being accessed by iPad users - different from apps, since it also covers websites and content downloaded from the iTunes Store.

44% of iPad users regularly access News content - the most popular category, followed by Music (41%), Books (39%), TV Shows (33%) and Movies (32%).

The research shows that access to books, TV and movies is considerably higher than on iPhone, where 13%, 11% and 12% of users respectively access those content categories.

Nielsen has made a further summary of its findings available as a PDF.
