62 per cent of Americans aged 25-34 own smartphones

Compared to 18 per cent aged 65+.

Research firm Nielsen claims US mobile users aged 25-34 clinched the highest adoption of smartphones with almost two-thirds, ahead of 18-24 year-olds that hold 54 per cent.

In total across all demographics smartphone ownership reaches just 43 per cent. This demonstrates the popularity of smartphones among younger generations as they surpass this total.

Further results show 18-24 year olds were closely followed by the 35-44 group with 53 per cent and then 45-54 at 38 per cent, 55-64 at 30 per cent with a sharp decline for those at 65+ at 18 per cent.

This leaves a large untapped market for the likes of US leaders HTC, Samsung and Apple to target in order for older mobile users to make the transition to smartphone.
