6,600 new developers joined BlackBerry App World in a fortnight

More than 1,500 apps have been submitted.

RIM has been driving its new BlackBerry Runtime for Android Apps over the past few weeks, with increasing determination, most recently offering free PlayBooks to entice developers.

The firm says its campaign has brought in over 6,600 new developers BlackBerry App World, who have submitted over 1,500 apps.

Developers originally had until February 13th, to submit their Android converted apps for the chance to win a PlayBook, but RIM has extended the competition in light of the results.

The offer will now run until March 2nd 2012, while contenders have until midnight EST tomorrow (February, 15th) to register as a vendor on App World.

The official blog, says: "We have teams working around the clock to approve vendor registrations and app submissions.  Because of the high demand, approvals are taking longer than normal – we appreciate your patience."
