So claims research from OpenCloud.
Are smartphone owners all hot for apps? Judging by some new research commissioned by OpenCloud, that's not the case.
The company surveyed 1,000 UK consumers, and found that of mobile users who have the ability to download apps, only 39% do so regularly.
What's more, 50% of smartphone users admitted to downloading NO apps in the last month, and 43% say they are not planning to download any more.
Meanwhile, 38% of smartphone users say they only download free apps.
The research also identified an 'app download honeymoon' when people first get their new phone - after which many lose interest in downloading any more.

OpenCloud reckons the findings should persuade operators to stop getting carried away by the apps bandwagon.
"What it does suggest is that operators should concentrate their activities around rich communication services, such as location-based services and improving the quality of voice calls, and look to innovate here," says CEO Jeff Gordon.
