44m mobile tweets a day for Twitter

News comes as microblogging service sails past the 200 million registered users mark

Mobile users are responsible for more than 44 million tweets every day, according to figures released by Twitter.

Well, we're cross-referencing a couple of different figures. The company tells Forbes that its service generates 110 million tweets every day, up from 95 million in December.

Meanwhile, recently Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said that 40% of all tweets are posted from mobile phones. Which, thanks to our ninja-grade mathematics skills, equals 44 million mobile tweets a day.

Forbes also reveals that there are now more than 200 million registered Twitter users, up from 160 million in September last year.

The news comes as Twitter launches a native-language service in South Korea, where it has signed a deal with operator LG Uplus to make tweeting via SMS free for the next six months.

In separate but (sort of) related news, it's emerged that only 66% of Twitter users are providing 'valid geographic information' in the Location field of their profiles on the service.

A study conducted by PARC found that 18% of users don't enter anything into that field, while another 18% include 'non-geographic information'. Which can be anything from 'Justin Bieber's Heart' to 'None of your business'.
