Deep and meaningful announcement.
3M’s Optical Systems Division will showcase various technologies during SID Display Week 2010 next week.
They will include glasses-free 3D film for handhelds, which 3M says is the only film to deliver auto-stereoscopic 3D without impacting colour or resolution of the displays.
The film only requires one LCD panel, operating at a 120Hz refresh rate. Backlight module assembly is nearly identical to existing systems.
The jury is still out on mobile 3D of course. But there have been a number of announcements in the space. Among those touting solution are Israeli-based Eyesight, which demoed at protoype of a 3D screen technology at MWC.
It sandwiches a bi-directional layer beneath the main screen to display slightly diverged images.
