3 UK has partnered with GetJar to offer its customers a library of free applications.
The aftershocks of Apple's App Store impact continue to be felt, with 3 UK the latest big name to launch its own take on the concept.In a surprise move the 3 App Store is to offer a range of freeware, demo, and ad-supported content to consumers encompassing the likes of Google Maps for Mobile, Yahoo!Go, Nimbuzz, eBuddy, MIG33 and MyWaves.
GetJar itself provides an "open and free" environment for developers and consumers, with over 10,000 free apps available for Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Palm, BlackBerry and Flash Lite-compatible phones.
The company has to date offered its catalogue on a direct-to-consumer basis via the web.
Obviously 3 already has its own content portal, but presumably sees value in offering products from the 'Long Tail'.

The last 12 months have seen the operator move away from its 'Mobile Media Company' moniker, with ad-funded and third-party services increasingly at the forefront of its offering.
