3,000 sign up for PhonepayPlus registration scheme

UK regulator is coming after any stragglers.

The registration scheme is mandatory for all PRS providers, and was set up to give consumers better information about premium rate numbers while helping PPP to monitor the practice of providers.

Paul Whiteing, PhonepayPlus’ CEO, said: “We are delighted to have over 3,000 providers registered with us. This is good news for the PRS industry, good news for consumers and good news for PhonepayPlus.

“We will pursue non-registered PRS providers, who will be in breach of the new code. Any providers contracted with non-registered providers will also be in breach of the new Code, even if they are registered themselves.

"So we urge any stragglers – who are now very much in the minority – to register as soon as possible. All providers should check that their clients are registered.

The UK regulator says it's built a new code from the ground up, based on the outcomes that consumers expect when they purchase a service, such as transparency, fairness and a simple process when they encounter a problem.
