26% of Americans get news via their mobiles

And they're pretty keen on it too.

New research from Pew Internet claims that 26% of all Americans currently access some form of news on their mobiles.

That's 33% of all US mobile users, and a whopping 88% of all US mobile users with mobile internet access.

When you consider all cellphone users, 26% check weather reports, 25% go online for news, and 18% have downloaded apps to access news, weather or sports updates.

"The typical on-the-go news consumer is a white male, age 34, who has graduated from college and is employed full-time," explains Pew in its report.

"Given their younger profile, it is not surprising that 40% of this group are parents of young children (compared with 30% of the general adult population), and 32% have never been married."

The report also describes these 'on-the-go news consumers' as being voracious in their appetite for mobile news.

55% of them use at least four different news platforms on a typical day - but here's a fascinating stat: they are 50% more likely than other adults to read the print version of a national newspaper.

The full report is well worth a read.
