24MAS buys mobile radio specialist Liquid Air Lab

Big move for the German company behind Spodtronic.com.

Liquid Air Lab is probably the biggest mobile radio firm in the world, having used its Spodtronic back-end system to power over 1,300 mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone, Nokia and BlackBerry devices.

It has an installed base of 20m users – growing by 1.2m a month – and has created services for radio stations including NRJ, The Voice, Absolute Radio, RTL Radio, Mix Megapol, NRK, FFH, Radio Hamburg and Antenne Bayern.

Crucially for 24MAS, which built is growing collection of properties on the foundations of its mobile ad network, the Spodtronic radio apps now serve hundreds of millions of ad impressions a month across Adplace.com, Liquid Air Lab’s proprietary targeted advertising network.

The rich ad formats accessed via the apps have attracted brands including Audi, Volkswagen, Intel, McDonalds and more.

Mikko Linnamäki, CEO and Founder of Liquid Air Lab, said: "We are thrilled to join 24MAS to bring our app technology to the next level and rapidly grow our advertising and distribution operations globally.

"The international presence of 24MAS combined with its focus on targeted advertising and application markets brings a huge benefit to our customers in the form of increased distribution and revenue generation possibilities worldwide."

Tero Turunen, CEO of 24MAS, added: “ Our clear strategy on focused vertical markets makes Liquid Air Lab a perfect fit in the 24MAS Group of companies.   The combination of 24MAS’s global reach and network with Liquid Air Lab’s leading global position, means we are able to offer an even broader range of scalable, targeted rich media mobile advertising services.

"Radio is truly mass market and the adoption rate on mobile radio is growing at an incredible rate.  As a media format that is perfect for mobile advertising, we believe the radio impressions across our radio network will be in the billions in the coming future."

The purchase is 24Mas's fifth in barely a year. It also bought games publishers, P1 Sports and THQ Wireless, games distributor Selatra and digital agency Spoiled Milk.
