20m plus paid downloads for Cut The Rope

Out of 85m overall.

Zeptolab's Cut The Rope is one of a handful of mobile games breaking into the mainstream and seeking to be the 'next Angry Birds'.

Well, isn't everyone?

But the title, which has been historically published by Chillingo (which made such a success of Angry Birds), is a big seller and now Zeptolab's CEO Misha Lyalin has  disclosed further details on its plans to expand.

In an interview with MocoNews, he confirmed that the game had accrued 85m downloads, of which a quarter were paid.

He added: "Mobile is the new screen: we see millions playing Cut the Rope daily, with monthly actives in the tens of millions."

But intriguingly Lyalin also wants to push the merchandise spin-off side to the property.

He confirmed that Cut The Rope comics have done "a few hundred thousand downloads", and that the firm has hired former Nickelodeon and Viacom exec Tanya Haider to focus on licensing opportunities.

There was also news of new versions based on WinPho 7 and PlayBook .
