Partnerships with official bodies for cricket, football and rugby working well.

London-based digital agency The Other Media has seen its sports apps downloaded more than one million times in total, the company has announced.

Its strategy has been to sign deals with UK sporting bodies, and those seals of approval appear to be helping the company's iOS, Android and BlackBerry apps find their audience on the various app stores.

The Other Media has made apps for the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Football League and the Rugby Football Union, with its first app - for the ECB - launching in April 2009.

"To reach a million downloads of our apps is clearly a major achievement for any developer," says managing director George Crabb. "Our apps allow the country’s cricket, football and rugby fans to follow the fortunes of their favourite teams with news and score updates as they happen. We think their success shows that sport is as popular as ever in Britain in the digital age."

All of these apps are free, which will have helped their download totals. The Other Media hasn't said how many active users the apps have, but it has provided some usage stats. The company says the ECB app has racked up more than 342 years' worth of user minutes since launch.

FL Football has notched up 41 years of use since its launch a year ago, while Official RFU is on five years, 10 months after going live.
