Seven-figure success on the App Store.

Microsoft and MobiTV have both announced that their latest iPhone apps have been downloaded by more than one million people.

Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger instant messaging app was only launched last week, yet racked up its first million downloads in five days.

Michael Chang, group product manager for Windows Live Messenger, says that this is part of a wider base of 24 million people using mobile phones to access the Messenger service.

The MobiTV for iPhone app wasn't quite as fast out of the blocks: it was released in April, so has taken a bit longer to reach the magic million.

The app's popularity has been fuelled by the World Cup - MobiTV says downloads are up 47% since the start of the tournament, while paid subscriptions have increased by 250%.

Meanwhile, the average session length has been 30 minutes since the World Cup kicked off - double the previous average.

More importantly, the app is making money for MobiTV. It's currently riding high in Apple's Top Grossing chart on the App Store, and MobiTV says that its conversion rate from free downloads to premium subscribers is more than 12%.

By our reckoning, that would mean more than 120,000 people have signed up to at least a $9.99 monthly subscription from within the app - meaning a minimum of $1.2 million of subscription revenues (or $840k for MobiTV once Apple's cut is taken out).
