Satellite TV provider finding plenty of takers for its cross-device service.

BSkyB has revealed the first figures from its new Sky Go service, which offers customers apps to watch live and recorded TV on their smartphones, tablets, computers and games consoles.

"We’re thrilled to announce that the Sky Go app recently recorded its one millionth download," writes Holly Knill, head of Sky Player and mobile TV at BSkyB, in a blog post.

"On top of that, in August our customers watched over 40 million pieces of content on Sky Go, 85% of which was live channels and 15% on demand."

According to Knill, Sky Sports 1 is the most popular live linear channel across these devices, followed by Sky Sports News and Sky Sports 2. The biggest usage figures came from Arsenal and Liverpool's recent clash in the Premier League.

The transfer deadline day on 31 August, as well as the London riots and Libyan revolution, were also strong drivers for Sky Go viewing in the last month.

Knill says that BSkyB's recent acquisition of Wi-Fi hotspot provider The Cloud will have a big impact on Sky Go, too.

"Sky Go’s integration with The Cloud will allow customers to enjoy free access via thousands of wireless hotspots throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland, so they can enjoy the highest-quality streaming of the content they love while out and about."
