But how will Skype-owned service fare once Microsoft acquisition goes through?
Mobile video startup Qik now has more than 10 million users, double its base at the start of 2011.
The company revealed the milestone while announcing that its premium services are now launching within its Android app, having made their debut on iPhone earlier this year.
Qik Premium for Android costs $4.99 a month, and gives Qik users unlimited storage for their videos, as well as a desktop-based video management application.
The premium service also lets Qik users upload videos from their device to their Qik account, to keep everything in one place. "We don’t box people into how they use our product and I think that’s one of the key things to our success is this flexibility of how you want to share moments through video," SVP of product development Bhaskar Roy tells GigaOM.
Qik's long-term future may be interesting though. Earlier this year, the company was acquired by Skype, which is now itself in the process of being bought by Microsoft, while also sealing the acquisition of group messaging startup GroupMe.

How Skype, Qik and GroupMe all sit together under Microsoft's umbrella remains to be seen.
