Multimedia-savvy Nokia

Nokia has unveiled 3 new Nseries devices - but don't call them phones, they're 'multimedia computers'.
The N93, N72 and N73 were formally unveiled at Nokia's Open Studio event in Berlin today. The manufacturer believes the music, video and imaging capabilities of the devices will take the industry beyond communications and into a new era of 'multimedia computers'.
Anssi Vanjoki, EVP and general manager of Nokia Multimedia, said: "We're bringing mobility to experiences that used to be limited to a place or single devices...whether it's shooting video, browsing the net or buying new music."
The new devices certainly do that. The N93 is Nokia's first assault on the camcorder market, with a 3.2 megapixel lens that provides DVB-like quality. The N93 is an imaging device, while the N72 introduces style features that Nokia hopes will appeal to the fashion conscious.
Nokia has also launched a range of complementary initiatives to drive the 'multimedia computer' sector. These include a dedicated website for user generated mobile video called Nokia Nseries Studio, a direct link to the Flickr photo blogging website from all three new models and a free copy of Adobe Premier Elements with the N93.
Nokia has already sold 50 million Nseries devices and believes the overall market for 'converged devices' will top 100 million units this year and 250 million by 2008. It claims a 50 per cent share of the current market.
