The power of the ringtone has translated to the fixed line space, as VoIP giant Skype teams with Qpass to enable its 55 million customers to personalise their service with downloadable content.
Qpass, which handles content delivery for T-Mobile International among others, is to manage the new ‘Personalize Skype’ storefront, including the task of sourcing ringtones, wallpapers and avatars.
The service allows users with the latest version of Skype for Windows 1.4 to download pre-recorded voice clips and sounds to use as a ringtone or to customize any other default sound events.
"Consumers are increasingly looking for ways to express their personality and we're proud to work alongside a pioneering innovator such as Skype," said Christian Lutz, general manager of Qpass for EMEA.
"This partnership allows Qpass to extend its offering to a massive global market and facilitate a greater depth of involvement for Skype users worldwide."
Personalize Skype is the latest step in the VoIP company’s expansion of premium services following the recent unveiling of its Voice Services Program, which offers callers both free and chargeable content.
Luxembourg-based Skype was acquired by web auction giant eBay for $2.6 billion earlier this month.
