MTV Networks has inked a deal to create and distribute mobile video content using footage from Warner Music Group's music catalogue.

The global agreement is the first of its kind between a media company and music label that covers programming on mobile networks.

The MTV video content will be available for mobile devices globally via streamed and downloadable formats across the company's brands and sub-brands, including MTV, MTV2, MTV Espanol, mtvU, VH1, CMT, VIVA, TMF and FLUX.

How consumers purchase the content will be determined by mobile operators in each market, but will include both subscription and a la carte pricing.

New programming for mobile audiences outside the US will include Spotlight - an original mobile video franchise launching this autumn within mobile television and on-demand video services.

The Spotlight packages will feature specific artists reflecting on their careers, music and upcoming activities. The first programmes will feature Warner Music artists including Sean Paul, Daniel Powter and David Gray.

"This is a highly unique and exciting relationship, one that helps us realise the full potential of our music video assets while giving Warner Music's emerging and established artists new platforms for reaching more of their fans on a global scale," said Edgar Bronfman Jr., chairman and CEO of Warner Music Group.
